Srikakulam: Aurobindo Pharmaceutical company workers launched hunger stir in Ranastalam mandal on Sunday under the aegis of CITU. They launched campaign through bike rally covering 26 villages in Ranastalam mandal.

Speaking on the occasion, CITU State vice-president Duppala Govinda Rao said that as a last weapon, the workers launched the hunger stir. The company management has been neglecting demands of the workers and its pollution affected villagers for the last 14 years, said Govinda Rao.

Residents of all the 26 affected villages are demanding jobs for locals and sought funds for development of their villages under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme but the yet to respond on the issue, he said.

About 3,500 persons are working in the company and they have been demanding minimum wages, provident fund, health insurance but the management not yet consider their repeated pleas, the CITU leader recalled.

“We are planning to explain the attitude of the management towards locals, affected villages and workers as part of hunger stir,” Govinda Rao said. CITU division secretary P Tejeswara Rao, Aurobindo workers union leaders S Seetharama Raju and I Bangaru Raju led the agitation in the villages.
