200 attend cancer screening camp for women at Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) Units Welfare Association, in association with Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, conducted a preventive cancer screening camp at VSEZ for female employees of the different companies located in the zone. Around 200 female employees from various companies attended the cancer screening camp and a few were diagnosed positive in the age group of 23 to 45 years.

While inaugurating the camp, Deputy Development Commissioner of VSEZ Phani Oruganti said that it is the responsibility of each and every individual, especially women, to take care of their health by taking regular medical tests and ensuring to have proper and timely food and exercise.

Blood cancer and breast cancer is common among ladies in India and so is cervical and thyroid cancers which are silent killers, if not detected and diagnosed early, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Winston S K Adams, President of the VSEZ Units Welfare Association and Vice President, FluentGrid Limited said that it is the first time that such a cancer screening camp is conducted in the last 29 years of VSEZ and thanked Muralikrishna, Managing Director of Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and the doctors and staff for helping to conduct the free camp.
