Vijayawada: All 970 villages in Krishna district will have LED street lamps by December-end as lamps installation work continues at a brisk pace in the district. As part of the energy conservation efforts, the Energy department is planning to install 27 lakh LED street lamps in all villages of the State.

The Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) has decided to install 2.40 lakh street lamps in Krishna district in 970 village panchayats by December-end. As part of it, the SPDCL has installed 1.20 lakh LED street lamps in 305 villages during the last one month. The installation work is in progress in 141 village panchayats and the work is yet to start in the remaining villages.

The State government is giving top priority for LED street lighting in village panchayats to increase the appearance and lighting and ensure safety and security to people. Superintending engineer, SPDCL, Krishna district N Venkateswarlu said the Energy department with coordination of village panchayats will complete the installation of remaining 1.20 lakh LED lamps by December-end.
