Tirupati: Apart from Srinivasam Sports Complex, one more outdoor and indoor sports facility will be set up by the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT). As part of smart city development projects, the MCT authorities have planned to use open space of Indira Maidan for construction of sports facility. The ground is known for hosting public meetings.

MCT Commissioner V Vijaya Rama Raju sent a proposal to the AP government for establishing a new sports facility at Indira Maidan and upgrading Srinivasam Sports Complex at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

The new facility will have 5 badminton courts; 2 volleyball courts; 1 basketball court; indoor recreational cricket suitable for all age groups and 2 indoor recreational soccer for all age groups. Similarly, full size separate gym for men and women, decent size gallery for public viewing and male and female changing rooms (1 each), male and female toilets and 1 toilet for disabled would be built.

The MCT is planning to construct a storage facility to store play equipment etc for safety purposes, 1 sitting/TV lounge room and/or board game room.

Mainly authorities are designed the blueprint to construct synthetic floor surface. Electronic Embedded sports lines to highlight each sport on touch of a button. For this, officials proposed to set up lighting and LUX levels.

As per their proposals, present swimming pool is going to makeover with additional facilities like restrooms, modern toilets, warm water facility, replacement of tiles, and construction of baby pool. Also, cricket net practice arena, cafeteria, scatting court renovation were also proposed in the project.

Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Engineer-2 B Chandrashekar said works related to indoor and outdoor facility will be grounded once the government issues GO. Also, civic officials have planned to upgrade the Srinivasam Sports Complex in the city and spend a total of Rs 12 crores from smart city funds.
