Visakhapatnam: ‘Samudra Shakti Abhiyan,’ a week-long technical exercise of Territorial Army commenced at BPCL Visakha Installation on Monday. The event marked with ceremonial handing over of installation key to the Lt Col.

Suman Kumar Mishra, commanding officer of 414 ASC BN Mktg (TA), Kamptee, Nagpur by the plant in-charge D Mohanarangan in the presence of Joint Chief Inspector of Factories, J Siva Sankara Reddy, Beerum Sukesh, TM (Retail) and P Chinna Rao, Inspector of Factories.

The Indian Territorial Army (TA) is the second line of defence after the Regular Indian Army. Volunteers of the Territorial Army usually serve in uniform for a few days every year to bear arms for national defence in times of dire need or national emergencies.

The present role of the Territorial Army is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of communities is affected or the security of country is threatened, and to provide units for the Regular Army as and when required.

The oil marketing companies, the staff from various oil companies recruited in Territorial Army are regularly trained to handle all types of operational activities at various plants, installations, LPG plants, and AFS so that in case of any exigencies like strike, natural calamity Territorial Army can handle the situation.
