Vijayawada: Guntur-Tenali railway line doubling project will become a big boon to the train passengers and farmers living in the rich delta region of Tenali as it will enhance the connectivity to Guntur and other cities like Vijayawada, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The railways is keen on connecting Vijayawada-Guntur and Tenali, which have sizeable urban population. Tenali region is well known for agricultural cultivation, growing horticulture crops and for dairy products. Rail connectivity will give a boost to the development of Tenali region.
Due to the existing single line between Guntur and Tenali, the Railways could not run more trains between the two stations. Keeping in view the importance of doubling the 24-km track, the Railways are completing the track laying and electrification works at brisk pace at a cost of Rs 167.34 crore.
The railways are trying to complete the works by February 2019, said Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager R Dhananjayulu. He said the doubling and electrification would be very useful to a large number of train passengers and farmers.
He said Vijayawada-Tenali-Guntur train connectivity will be very useful to lakhs of train passengers. After bifurcation of the State, capital region comprising Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri is developing fast as economic and commercial hub. In this backdrop, the region needs more transportation facilities.
The doubling project involves construction of two major bridges, 40 minor bridges and other civil works. So far, construction of all major and minor bridges, earth work and blanketing has been completed.
Yard modification works, which are the part of doubling project works were also completed at Guntur, Sangamjagarlamudi, Vejendla and Tenali.
Vejendla station got a facelift as new station building has been constructed, two new platforms are nearing completion and construction of a foot-over bridge is in progress at brisk pace.
At Sangamjagarlamudi station, construction works of new station building were completed. Other works like renovation of platforms, construction of new foot-over bridge and new cover works on the platforms are in progress. Indoor works are in progress at Manipuram Cabin.
Guntur-Tenali doubling project will enhance the train connectivity between Hyderabad and Chennai also as more trains can be operated in future. Besides, minerals from Palnadu region can be exported to other areas with increased rail connectivity. The railways are hopeful of completing the 24-km project by February 2019.
