Chittoor: The State government handed over the contract to The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF) for serving cooked food to the students of government schools in Kuppam Assembly constituency, under the mid-day meal scheme. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to launch the mid-day meal scheme in Kuppam on January 2.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation will supply cooked food to 34,171 students belonging to 393 primary schools, 29 upper primary schools and 70 high schools in the mandals of Kuppam, Gudupalle, Santhipuram and Ramasamudram mandals.

The government gave administrative sanction for Rs 7.99 crore allowing ISKCON-backed TAPF to construct a centralised kitchen near Kuppam Engineering College in Kuppam mandal headquarters.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, District Educational Officer (DEO) Dr K Panduranga Swamy said that the TAPF was entrusted with the task of serving cooked food in the government schools of Kuppam constituency. He admitted that the TAPF denied of supplying egg to the students just like ISKCON and Srikalahasteeswara Swamy temple.

A separate arrangement would be made to supply eggs to the students in Kuppam segment through certain private agencies as per the prescribed menu, the DEO clarified.
