Vijayawada: The Durga temple administration is preparing plans to construct cottages in Amaravati capital. Temple Executive Officer (EO) V Koteswaramma submitted a proposal to the State government recently and requested the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to allot 15 acre land in Amaravati for construction of cottages.

So far, the Durga temple administration has not been providing accommodation facility to devotees who visit the temple from various parts of country. Nearly 20,000 devotees visit the temple everyday and it touches almost one lakh on auspicious occasions. The devotees from various parts of the State, especially from northern Andhra and Telangana visit the temple frequently.

Generally, the devotees prefer to stay one day to get relaxation from the strain of traveling and visit the surroundings of Amaravati capital including Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mangalagiri town. But the devotees are staying in hotels spending huge amounts.

Even the temple has got recognition as the second biggest pilgrimage cenntreafter Tirumala TirupathiDevasthanams (TTD) in the State and assumed significance for its proximity to Amaravati capital. But the temple administration failed to provide facilities for accommodation.

CVR Charitable Trust donated land to the temple and the TTD’s land is also available nearby along with nearly 1,200 acres of Endowment department lands in Amaravati. Finally, the temple administration submitted a proposal to construct cottages in 15 acres site in Amaravati. The temple authorities have plans to provide transport facility from cottages to Durga temple.

The construction of cottages for the devotees is important when the city surroundings are selected for the capital city, says former Trust Board member K Jaganmohan Rao. Speaking to The Hans India he said that the government should have concentrated to construct cottages long ago by taking into consideration the requirement. He thanked the temple authorities for making plans towards construction of cottages.
