Vijayawada: Stating that the police plays vital role in the development of the State, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured that the government would consider the request of giving promotions to the AR constables and women constables working in the State.

Chandrababu Naidu participated in the felicitation programme conducted by the police at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium on Monday. Police from all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the felicitation programme. The programme was organised in view of the 2,019 constables promoted as head constables and 566 head constables promoted as Assistant Sub-Inspectors of Police.

The State government issued orders for the promotion of 2,585 police personnel in the State in order to strengthen the department. Speaking on the occasion, Chandrababu Naidu said police duty is the most difficult duty in the society because the police stations work 24x7 and the stations are not closed like other offices.

He said the government had given promotions to the police constables and also would consider the requests of police to give promotions to the AR constables and women constables. He said police work very hard for the protection of the lives and properties of the people.

He reminded that on the New Year Day, all people celebrate the event but the police would be on duty. Referring to the promotions, he said many police personnel were in distress and despair as they could not get promotions in their career spanning 20 to 30 years.

He recalled former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao was the only Chief Minister who had thought about the self-respect of police constables and changed the uniform from shorts to the trousers. Chandrababu Naidu said the State government allocated Rs 55 crore for the welfare of the police since the TDP government was voted to power in 2014.

He assured that the government will take measures for the welfare of the police and consider their requests. He suggested to the top police officials to inculcate the habit of giving respect to the lower-level staff and make the police as one family.

Home Minister N Chinarajappa assured that the government would strengthen the police department by taking measures for the welfare of police. Principal Secretary (Home) A R Anuradha explained how the government had taken initiative to give promotions to the cops.

Constables have narrated their experiences and thanked DGP R P Thakur, Home Minister N Chinarajappa and other police officials. Chandrababu Naidu formally flagged off 1,580 police vehicles on the occasion. They include Scorpio, Bolero, Honda city and other cars and two-wheelers.
