Vijayawada: The second public hearing meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) was held here on Tuesday. Several people’s organisations and the political parties submitted representations and some of them requested the commission members to give sops for agriculture sector.

CPM State Committee member Ch Babu Rao met the ERC members Justice Bhavani Prasad, P Rammohana Rao and P Raghu and requested them provide free power up to 200 units for poorer sections along with SCs and STs.

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh state vice-president Katuri Harikishore Kumar Reddy said that the government should provide free power for nine hours a day for agriculture connections. He said that the power connection should be given to farmers without delay. Farmer Cherukuri Venugopala Rao said that the farmers should be paid compensation for using their lands to construct towers.
