Exhibition of sketches from January 10 at CCVA

Vijayawada: Urban Sketchers Singapore (USK) would showcase about 90 sketches of the 29 villages of Amaravati. The exhibition of the sketches would be inaugurated by Minister of Communication and Information Singapore, Iswaran on January 10 (Thursday) at 4 pm at the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA), said Y Harish Chandra Prasad, founder and chief mentor of Mahalaxmi Group here on Wednesday.
Addressing the media, Harish Chandra Prasad said that USK is a non-profit organisation specialising in on-location drawing. Set up in 2017, in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore) and supported by the Amaravati Partnership Office (APO) of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, it had taken up a group of twenty-six sketchers from USK and four sketchers from various parts of India, including Andhra Pradesh and visited 29 villages in Amaravati. The sketchers produced over 200 sketches of Amaravati to document its heritage, culture and landscapes before the infrastructural and economic development of the area as the new green field capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
He said that In June 2018, Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu visited the first exhibition of the Amaravati sketches at Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore), where over 50 sketches were featured. About 90 sketches are now exhibited in the CCVA for the first time in India. The exhibition, organised by APO from January 10 to 31, is made possible by the invaluable support from Malaxmi Group and the CCVA.
Eric Tan, Director of Institutional Development at APO, thanked Malaxmi Group and CCVA for their gracious hospitality and invaluable support in hosting this exhibition. He expressed appreciation for their mission to facilitate the renaissance of art, culture, tradition and literature of Andhra Pradesh. Tan said that he hoped the Urban Sketchers exhibition would contribute to these efforts, through the sketchers’ attempts to capture the rich history, people, culture, and beauty of Amaravati, complemented by the highly relevant archaeological artifacts contributed from CCVA’s collection.
