Sahiti’s Kuchipudi performance wows audience in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: The city has always been a place where tradition and culture are supported in a big way and the CCVA is the forerunner in this aspect, said D Lakshmi Parthasarathi, Chairperson of Amaravati Development Corporation while inaugurating the solo dance recital of Sahiti Nadimpalli, a US-based Kuchipudi artiste here on Friday.

The programme is a part of the monthly dance programme ‘Natyasravanti’ jointly organised by Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) and Srinivasa Farms.

Sahiti began her performance with an invocation item Sri Ganapatini composed by Thyagaraja in Saurastra raga and Aditala in which she calls her follow devotees to pray Lord Ganesa, choreographed in five counts including Tissa, Kanda, Misra and Sankeernam.

She took up Ambasthakam, a Stotra by Adisankara in Ragamalika and Aditala composed by Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam as second item.

Then she assumed Durga Avatar as slayer of demons. The dancer exhibited her talent in Kuchipudi repertoire for Bhamakalaspam, in Bhairavi raga and Aditala.

She played the role of Satyabhama in her grace and arrogance. The last item which allured the audience to climax of their joy was a Thillana, a pure dance item performed by Sahiti presenting the beauty of Kuchipudi dance through sharp neck movements, intricate footwork and steady hand gestures.

Sridharma Sastha complimented the organisers Y Harish Chandra Prasad, founder and chief mentor, Malaxmi Group for promoting Andhra culture and encouraging traditional arts and crafts.

Sangitanatyacharini Dr Vedantam Venkata Durga Bhavani, Sandeep Mandava, CEO, Malaxmi Property Ventures Pvt Ltd and Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, CCVA, Dr Vedantam Ramalinga Sastry, Dr Gumma Sambasiva Rao, Golla Narayana Rao and Art Lovers of the city were present.

Later, the chief guest felicitated the artiste with a memento and shawl
