Vijayawada: In an attempt to raise awareness on cancer, Manipal Hospitals Vijayawada launched awareness drive to fight against cancer at KL University, Siddharatha College and Nirmala Convent to mark ‘World Cancer Day’ on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Unit Head of Manipal Hospitals, Vijayawada, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi said they have constantly striving to provide comprehensive, holistic approach to patient care, treatment and patient education to tackle cancer.

Consultant Medical Oncologist and Transplant Physician, Manipal Hospitals Dr Krishna Reddy said, “Today cancer is one of the deadliest ailments across all age groups and is a matter of great concern for millions who are gripped by this fatal disease.

However, it is extremely important for people to go for regular check-ups, as this will help in early diagnosis and faster treatment. Early detection and treatment is key besides making simple lifestyle changes.

Regular exercise, routine health checks, balanced meals and staying away from tobacco is the mantra to keep cancer at bay.

Cancer if detected early can be cured through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy and targeted therapy.

The choice of therapy depends upon the location and grade of the tumor and the stage of the disease, as well as the general state of the patient.”
