Eluru: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone to the government medical college to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 266 crore at the Government General Hospital here on Saturday night.

He laid the stone online from Amaravati while Minister Pithani Satyanarayana, MLC Ramu Surya Rao and District Collector Praveen Kumar unveiled a plaque here at the same time.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said that the State government had introduced many reforms in the health sector to extend modern medicare to all. As part of launching of the e-primary health sub-centres all over the state, as many as 31 sub-centres would be coming up in West Godavari district.

Minister Satyanarayana said that the medical college would help in extending medical services to people of the district and its surrounding areas.

MLC Ramu Surya Rao said that the government had agreed to allocate Rs 20 crore for the college this year.

DMHO Dr Subrahmanyeshwari, hospital superintendent Dr AVR Mohan, hospital development
committee members and others were present.
