Tirupati: For security needs, the passengers on board of any train can dial the toll-free number 182, said the Principal Chief Security Commissioner of South Central Railway (SCR) GM Eswara Rao.
Responding to the media after holding a meeting with RPF and GRP officials at Tirupati railway station, he said that if passengers require any security during their journey, they can call the toll-free number.
If they face any nuisance in any form or subjected to harassment or any other issue, they can inform the control room by calling that number. It will directly go to the divisional control room, who will immediately direct the security sleuths at concerned station to reach that bogie and look after the issue.
He said that, both RPF and GRP sleuths will work in tandem to extend better services to the passengers. Steps will be taken to conduct special drives to prevent any untoward incidents or red sanders smuggling and their staff will immediately plunge into action on getting any information from the public or media.
Manpower at Tirupati station will be increased in due course and in the meantime, the services of home guards and local resources will be utilised to meet the increasing needs. Crime prevention teams will be formed to identify the culprits and prevent thefts.
The Commissioner also said that, the station is having almost 10 entry points which requires huge manpower to watch.
Efforts will be put to reduce these entry points. In the same breath, they have been considering bringing down the RPF and GRP stations from the first floor to the ground floor for which they will hold discussions with the DRM.
Earlier, he went round the station to take stock of the situation. He also inspected the miniature models of station redevelopment plan.
Station Director K Satyanarayana, Station Manager M Subodh Mithra GRP DSP SM Ramesh Babu, RPF CI B Saidaiah and other officials were with him.
