Vijayawada: Expressing his ire over the poor progress of storm water drains in New RR Pet and RR Pet in 41st division, Municipal Commissioner M Rama Rao has decided to ask the public health department to serve notices to the assistant engineers and other low rank officers.

As part of inspection, the Commissioner visited New RR Pet and RR Pet and shocked to see poor state of hygienic conditions prevailed in the area. The locals told the Commissioner that they had been facing many hardships due to stagnation of water caused by slow progress of works.

They said the side drains are not connected to culverts and main drains properly. They added that viral fevers and other seasonal diseases are common in the area due to poor hygienic conditions. The Commissioner expressing his ire on the public health department engineers decided to ask the higher officials to serve notices to assistant engineers and low ranked officers.

The residents also complained that they are not getting adequate drinking water from the VMC. Responding to the problems, the Commissioner instructed the VMC engineering wing officials to take measures to supply adequate drinking water.

He inspected the dirty streets, which were filled with debris of building materials and garbage. The Commissioner instructed the VMC staff to take steps on war footing basis to improve the hygienic conditions in the two areas.
