Kurnool: Minister for Health and Minority Welfare NMD Farooq said the State government is giving priority for women empowerment. He participated as chief guest for a programme organised at Government General Hospital here on Friday, on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

Addressing a meeting, Farooq said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is implementing several welfare schemes for uplift of women. He recalled former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao had treated women equally with men.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Dhanvanthari Conference Hall constructed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, Dental x-ray department set up by spending Rs 10 lakh and ECT equipment at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. He also unveiled the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises of the hospital. Kurnool MLA Mohan Reddy, KUDA Chairman Somisetty Venkateswarlu and others took part.

District Collector S Satyanarayana has participated in the Women’s Day celebrations organised at Sunaina Auditorium here. Addressing the participants, the Collector called upon the parents to give equal importance to girl children in imparting education.

He enlisted welfare schemes introduced by the government for women. Prasanthi, Commissioner of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation also spoke. Joint Collector P Ravi Subash, Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy, ICDS Project Director Jubeda Begum and others present. Similarly, the district police administration also organised the International Women’s Day celebrations in Police Parade grounds here.
