Tanuku: First Class Magistrate N Mary called upon women to know various Acts enacted for protection of their rights.

She was chief guest at the International Women’s Day celebrations held on the premises of SKSD Mahila Kalasala (Autonomous) here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, she briefed the students on different legal Acts regarding protection of women rights. Law is always ready to protect women rights, she said.

Kamana Muniswamy, convener of Mandal Legal Service, Undrajavaram said that women should have awareness about legal Acts and use the legal services available without hesitation.

Vavilala Sarala Devi, chairperson of AP Weavers United Front, Vijayawada shared her feelings with students. Women empowerment is possible by following morals and our tradition.

Chitturi Subba Rao, founder and secretary & correspondent of SKSD group of colleges said education is necessary for women as they are basis for family and society.

He quoted the story of Ananda Bhai Gopal Rao Joshi, the first lady doctor in India, who took a lot of pain to become a doctor, overcoming the social, cultural barriers.

He asked the students to get inspiration from her life and try to achieve goals in their life.

Dr B Naga Padmavathy, principal said that women’s development is nation’s development and women empowerment is necessary for the overall development of society. Nandigam Sudhakar, treasurer, SKSD group also spoke.

K Venkateswarlu, member in Mandal Legal Service Committee, Undrajavaram, N Ajay Kumar, advocate, administrative officer Dr D Subba Rao, vice-principals Dr DM Neeraja and K Vani, faculty, students were present.
