Mitsubishi is a company that has had both success as well as massive failure in the Indian market. The Japanese auto giant first launched the Lancer and Pajero which sold in decent numbers initially. The company then went on to launch the Cedia which found few buyers and then the Pajero Sport came. The company made many announcements regarding launching new vehicles but failed to commit to it most of the times.

Mitsubishi is almost extinct in the Indian automotive market right now but the company still hasn’t lost hope. The automaker will be launching a new MPV by 2019 and it is set to target the Toyota Innova which is a class-leader and a tough vehicle to beat. The Mitsubishi Delica looks like a proper van and the design is very boxy.

The front face is simple with a huge windscreen, chrome grille and fog lamps. The side profile looks plain jane and the rear is pretty much flat. The two tail lights are connected by a red light that runs across the length of the hatch gate and that breaks the monotony at the rear to some extent.

The interiors are again very simple and the vehicle has been designed for maximum practicality. The seats fold down to free up a lot of cargo space. The Delica gets two glove boxes and lots of cubby holes to store various items. The Mitsubishi Delica is powered by a 2.4-litre MIVEC engine producing 169 HP of power and 226 Nm of torque.

The engine is mated to a CVT transmission and fuel efficiency is claimed to be 10.41 km/l. The MPV comes with features like ABS, EBD, ASC, 4WD, Active Cornering Lights, SRS airbags and Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution. The Delica will have a tough time in India since Mitsubishi has a close-to-zero presence here apart from the fact that rivals like the Innova are already well-established. The Mitsubishi Delica will be launched here in 2019 and it will be priced between Rs. 15-20 lakhs.
