Lamborghini Urus SUV coming to India in 2018

Lamborghini's first SUV is all set to be based on the concept car Urus it showcased at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012. The new SUV will enter market-production stage in 2018. With the new SUV, Lamborghini might for the first time make use of a turbocharger over the naturally-aspirated engines it has been using in its cars till now.

Also, this is the first Lamborghini car that could get a plug-in option, if Lamborghini has the opportunity for an extra engine according to Lamborghini chief Stephan Winkelmann. Lamborghini's SUV will be manufactured at the company's factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy.

A big expansion is in the pipeline as Lamborghini will be increasing its factory size from 80,000 sq metre to 1,50,000 sq metre to accommodate new facilities required for the addition of a third model line to their line-up. The Italian manufactuer will also be hiring 500 new employees for the production of its new SUV which will take its employee base to 1700 people.

Lamborghini has said that the market it will targeting for its first SUV is USA, China, the Middle East, United Kingdom, Germany and Russia. Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said, “This is a proud moment for everybody in Lamborghini. The introduction of a third model line endorses the stable and sustainable growth of the company and signifies for us the beginning of a new era.” The SUV will be available in India after its launch in 2018.
