Students build car that sprints from 0-100 in 1.7 seconds. The need for speed is what has always urged car makers to push technology to the limit to make their cars the fastest in the world. This time though it wasn\'t a car manufacturer to do it but a bunch of students from the University of Stuttgart.

The Green Team Formula Student participants managed to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 1.779 seconds, thus beating the previous record by 0.006 seconds. And this feat was not achieved by a petrol powered car. The all electric vehicle designed by the students churns out a healthy 134bhp - more power than some of the hatchbacks here in India.
The machine features four electric motors and a 6.62-kWh battery package. The total weight stands at 160 kg. Just to give you a perspective, the Bugatti Veyron does the sprint in 2.6 seconds. The record is still unofficial and will be confirmed by the Guinness World Records in the coming weeks.
