Following its national launch held in Mumbai, Land Rover India has launched its new entry-level SUV, Discovery Sport, at a starting price of Rs 46.1 lakh (ex-showroom) at Pride Motors, in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Following its national launch held in Mumbai, Land Rover India has launched its new entry-level SUV, Discovery Sport, at a starting price of Rs 46.1 lakh (ex-showroom) at Pride Motors, in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.



The vehicle will be sold in four trims: S, SE, HSE, and HSE Luxury.The new Rover, which has taken its design cues from its sibling Evoque will replace Freelander 2 and sit below the current Discovery 4. One of the places where Discovery Sport scores over the Freelander 2 is its 5+2 seating configuration, which many of its rivals also did not offer.



The SUV is powered by the 2.2-litre diesel engine with two power outputs. The 147bhp version is available with S, SE and HSE version, while the 187bhp state of tune is reserved for top-spec HSE luxury variant. The engine will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.



The basic S version is equipped with 6-speaker audio system, 6 airbags and electrically adjustable and heated wing mirrors. In addition to the features of S variant, the SE trim features panoramic roof, Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, cruise control, parking sensors, 10-speaker audio system and option for seven seat layout.



The HSE trim boasts of leather seats and steering wheel along with dual zone climate control. The top variant, HSE Luxury, has Adaptive MagneRide suspension, adaptive Xenon headlamps, premium quality leather, Meridian surround audio system with 17 speakers and rear-seat entertainment package.



Offering off-road credibility is the Terrain Response system, which is the four-wheel drive system, allowing the SUV to traverse on different surfaces. Land Rover commenced the booking of the Discovery Sport on 10 August and fetched over 200 pre-launch bookings in just four days.


The SUV will be locally manufactured at the Jaguar Land Rover's Pune facility. Discovery Sport will rival against the likes of the Audi Q5, the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC 60.
