Yamaha Lander 250 XTZ spied in India

Adventure motorcycles and more recently adventure tourers have finally made it to the Indian market, and it now seems that the dual-sport off-roaders will also have their say after the longest wait. Despite an early entry, Hero MotoCorp could not make a profit due to the underpowered Impulse and hence, is readying up a more powerful derivative to compete in the segment (with a new name and based on the HX platform). Honda too has patented its NXR 160 Bros in India recently, which essentially is the Impulse but with a bigger engine under its belly. Joining this lineup might soon be the Yamaha Lander 250 XTZ that was recently spied in the country.

“Yamaha India has been testing the Lander 250 XTZ in the country for some time and was recently snapped during one its test runs. The Lander is already on sale internationally including Brazil, a market that also retails the Honda NXR 160 Bros and is a popular offering in the market. Powering the off-roader is a 250cc single-cylinder engine with fuel-injection that produces 21 BHP of power and 21 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The off-roader comes with a massive ground clearance of 275 mm that will surely keep the underbelly safe on the most rugged of trails,” reports Motor Beam.

Based on a semi-double cradle frame, the Yamaha Lander 250 XTZ gets telescopic front forks and a swingarm link type monocross suspension at the rear. The off-roader comes with a kerb weight of 143 kgs making for a healthy power-to-weight ratio while braking performance comes from disc brakes at the front and rear. It is too early to talk about the pricing, but if the source is to be believed then the Yamaha Lander will carry a price tag of around Rs. 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom), which is extremely lucrative and will ensure a lot of dirt bike enthusiasts make frequent visits to Yamaha showrooms in the country.
