The two-wheeler segment in India has grown by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. There are so many options available that buyers are confused and more than spoilt for choice.
However, the top 10 selling two-wheelers are usually commuter bikes and entry-level scooters barring a couple of odd exceptions.
The Hero Splendor has constantly remained the highest selling two-wheeler in the country, clocking sales of over 2 lakh units every month.
The Honda Activa is also the highest selling scooter in India and even it sells more than 2 lakh units every month.
Since the last 4-5 months, the battle between these two top-sellers got very intense when the Activa dethroned the Splendor from the top position. The Splendor then hit back next month by showing the Activa who’s boss.
In August, the Activa was at the first position while now in September, the Splendor has regained its top spot. The Hero Splendor has been around in the market for a very long time now.
It is the bread and butter bike for the manufacturer while it is also the common man’s favourite bike thanks to its cheap ownership and running costs and excellent reliability.
Hero also has a widespread service network across the length and breadth of the country and hence the Splendor continues to sell in good numbers in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities while it is not much preferred by the younger generation since they prefer bikes that have a sport appeal.
Hero has given the Splendor quite some updates and most of them have been cosmetic in nature. The bike also spawned a Cafe Racer version last year.
Talking about the Honda Activa, this scooter has been around since almost 15 years and it became a massive hit within 2-3 years of launch.
It continues to remain everyone’s favourite scooter and you may not be surprised to see an odd Activa in many affluent households in the country too.
The Activa has also got some quite significant updates in the past and now it is offered in a lot of variants like the Activa 3G, Activa i, Activa 110, etc.
The battle between the Splendor and Activa is going to get even more interesting when manufacturers start offering discounts during the festive season.
