The latest crash test results of the New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) for Latin America and the Caribbean saw the Hyundai Creta SUV, manufactured in India, scoring four stars out of five. The tested model was made in the Chennai facility in left-hand-driven format for the Latin American market — countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Panama.
The Hyundai Creta achieved four stars in adult occupant protection and three stars in child occupant protection. Latin NCAP learnt the lack of standard equipment such as ABS and passenger Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) limited the model from achieving a better rating.
The side impact test that the manufacturer did not sponsor is not performed in this test. The safety features in the tested SUV includes front-seat-belt pretensioner, driver and passenger front airbag, Antilock Brake System (ABS) and ISOFIX child safety system.
In the frontal impact the driver and passenger were both well protected by the driver and passenger airbags. The bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loading. The test result also said the child seat for a three-year-old child was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact.
Hyundai Creta has been receiving positive response in the global markets. The company has bagged over 15,770 orders globally in addition to the above 70,000 bookings in India. Apart from the Lartin American market, Hyundai Motor India Limited exports the Creta to Oman, the UAE, Saudi, Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria at present.
