Spied on test on a number of occasions, the Tata Nexon compact SUV has made global debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. Seen with design cues borrowed from Land Rover Evoque, Tata Nexon promises a bold stance and a premium look.

Seen here in a pre-production format, launch of Nexon SUV will take place later this year. Once launched it will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Based on the same platform as that of the new Bolt, Tata Nexon is a sporty SUV built for the young generation. It features dual tone colour on the outside, bulkier stance, plastic claddings on the side, LED DRLs in the front, LED taillgihts, new alloys, projector headlamps, chrome grille, foglights, ORVM with turn indicators, and a matte black roof with roof spoiler protruding at the rear.

At the Auto Expo, interiors were not revealed. But spy shots from the past confirm interiors of Nexon will be similar to that of Bolt or Zest. The dashboard design will be modified a bit, while it will receive the same 3 spoke steering wheel, new horizontal AC vents and instrument cluster along with rotary controls for its HVAC system. Touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate controls and an AMT gearbox will be a part of the features seen on the top end trim of the Tata Nexon compact SUV.

While engine specifications have not been detailed, it is expected that Tata Motors could offer a 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine capable of 90bhp power at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nmtorque at 1,750-3,000rpm. It will also get a 1.2 liter petrol engine seen powering the Tata Zest and Bolt capable of 90 bhp power at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm torque at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.
