TVS to become first two wheeler maker to introduce fuel injection technology

TVS looks to be on course to become the technology leader in the fast growing automatic scooter segment.

A pair of unbranded (but not camouflaged) TVS Jupiter test mules were snapped up close in Coimbatore with front disc brake and fuel-injection system. The scooters had O2 sensors and lacked the chock lever which is associated with carburetor, thereby giving away the presence of EFI.

The automatic scooter segment is growing at a brisk pace and TVS, by the looks of it, is gearing up to take lead in the technology race. The emergence of the test mules on public roads signals that the automaker is in the advanced stage of the development process. TVS could either be working on an upmarket variant of the Jupiter or just using the model as a test platform for the fuel injection technology.

The existing Jupiter variant is powered by a 109.7 cc air-cooled engine which has 8 bhp and 8 Nm of torque at its disposal. The addition of fuel injection would make for more refinement, slightly higher power and torque outputs in addition to better throttle response and cold start characteristics. The CO2 emission would also be noticeably reduced.

TVS looks set to become the first two wheeler maker to introduce fuel injection technology in the Indian 100-100 cc automatic scooter segment. Once the technology is ready, the company can use it in more of its models that use the same motor.
