The Honda CBR250RR concept a.k.a. Lightweight Super Sports concept which world premiered at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015, is rumored to enter production later this year in August. Earlier it was reported that the production was due to start in March 2016, but that is not happening now.

Likely to make its world premiere in March, the production model is reported to offer high-end features like LED headlights and ride-by-wire technology. The powertrain specifications have not been made public yet but we expect the parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor to displace around 250 cc to produce around 45 PS of power. A 6-speed transmission will harness the output. The concept also sports a custom Akrapovic exhaust.

The edgy concept previews a twin-cylinder quarter litre supersports model which will be positioned above the single-cylinder CBR250R. The CBR250RR’s sharp design is composed of an aggressive full fairing, an equally expressive fuel tank, superbike-like split seats, LED taillight, a sophisticated digital instrument console, petal discs and clip-on bars. The matte black color theme accentuates the surfaces effectively.

Suspending the motorcycle are USD front fork and rear mono suspension. The upmarket compact sportsbike will be vying to take on the likes of Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM RC390, etc.

Given that the Indian compact sportsbike segment is expanding rapidly, the Honda CBR250RR could prove to be a good fit in HMSI’s portfolio between the existing CBR250R and CBR650F.
