Ford has partnered with mobility outfitter, BraunAbility to create the Explorer-based BraunAbility MXV, which is the world’s first volume-production wheelchair-accessible SUV.

The MXV is available on the Ford Explorer's base, XLT and Limited models. It is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine and delivers the same performance and capability as a regular Explorer, including the 2,268kg maximum tow capacity.

Features in the MXV include removable driver and passenger seats, patent-pending sliding-door technology, and a powered, lighted in-floor ramp. The space in the car has also been maximised to support wheelchair navigation and improve comfort.

The removable front row seating allows wheelchair users to ride as passengers or drive the BraunAbility MXV. "Our customers are very excited to have a mobility option that reflects their individuality. For us, Ford Explorer was the obvious choice.

It’s an iconic American vehicle that reflects the ultimate in independence and freedom,” said Nick Gutwein, BraunAbility president and CEO.
