Mercedes-Benz will be introducing a new variant of the S-Class in this month, badged as ‘S400’. The S400 will be one of the 12 cars which the car manufacturer plans to launch in India this year.
The S400 will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged petrol engine which will be capable of producing 333PS of power and 480Nm of peak torque. The S400 will either get a 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox or the new 9-speed automatic transmission.
Till now the S500, which is powered by the V8 twin-turbo engine, was the only petrol variant available in the luxury car segment by Mercedes-Benz. The S400 will share this space and be a more affordable petrol variant of S-Class to be offered by the German car maker.
The S400 will offer the luxuries of the S-Class with a more practical powerplant. The new variant is expected to be priced between the S350d and the S500. Expect the price of the S400 to hover around the Rs 1.3 crore mark (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The S-Class is currently sold in India by Mercedes-Benz in various variants like the S350d diesel and S500 petrol. Then, there is an extended version of the S-Class which is called the Mercedes-Maybach and is available as the S500 and S600. Lastly, the S63 Coupé by Mercedes-Benz completes the S-Class product series.
