The issue does not impact the DSG variant of the Vento or Polo diesel.Sales of VW Vento 1.5 TDI with manual gearbox have been stopped temporarily until VW India finds the solution for an inconsistency in CO (carbon monoxide) emissions that were observed to be exceeding the limit during ARAI’s Conformity of Production (COP) tests.

The German automaker has also issued a recall of 3,877 units of the Vento 1.5 TDI manual to check for the aforementioned inconsistency. In a statement, VW India said that it is analysing the issue and will soon propose technical measures to ARAI. Once the competent authorities approve VW’s solution, it will be implemented and the production of the said vehicle will resume. The same solution will also be implemented on the affected vehicles that are already sold.

The company has clearly stated that the problem impacts only the manual variant of the Vento diesel and is not connected to the ongoing global NoX emission issue which is widely referred to as dieselgate. VW India has also confirmed that all cars that are current with customers are safe and road worthy. The CO emission issue hasn’t affected the DSG automatic variants of the Vento or Polo diesel models which will continue to be produced and sold in the country.

Considering that the Skoda Rapid 1.5 TDI manual uses the same engine as the Vento, we expect VW’s Czech subsidiary to come up with similar recall and sales-stop announcement shortly.
