Deliveries in India are expected to commence by mid-2016. It will be manufactured alongside the Kwid at RNA’s Chennai plant. The Datsun Redi-Go is just days away from its world premiere on April 14 in Delhi. Nissan’s budget brand has started teasing the small car in a bid to create a buzz.

The Redi-GO is the Renault Kwid’s Datsun counterpart and is based out of the same CMF-A low-cost platform. Just like the Kwid, the development of the low-cost Datsun took place primarily in India and is almost fully localized here. This cost structure would help Datsun come up with a highly competitive price tag.

Speaking on the pricing, the Kwid itself is aggressively priced. So how will Datsun Redi-Go beat that? Well, one way is to skimp on some equipment. Anyway, we will know better at the time of the unveil.

The teaser image shows the top view of the small car in its fluorescent green communication color. It’s been reported that the Redi-Go is taller and shorter (in length) than its French counterpart. The height would ease up useful vertical space inside the cabin.

The Redi-Go will initially be launched with the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine that is also found in the Kwid. Mated to a 5-speed MT, the motor is tuned to deliver 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque. A 1.0-litre petrol with AMT is expected to be in the pipeline. There are also rumors that Nissan is working on a Redi-Go diesel variant with a new 1.0-litre mill.
