5 star rating for Honda BR-V summer launch in India

The BR-V is a bolder interpretation of the Mobilio with better interiors.The Honda BR-V crossover which is set to be launched in India next month has come out with flying colors at the ASEAN-NCAP crash tests. The variants which are equipped with ESP and Seat Belt Reminder for both co-passenger and driver received 5-star rating for adult occupant protection.

The lower variants without the aforementioned features make do with 4-star rating for adult occupant safety. Irrespective of the variant, the BR-V received 4-star rating for child occupant protection with 72% marks.

The BR-V’s salient safety features include dual airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Assist, Seat Belt Reminder, Hill Start Assist and an impact absorbing ACE body (Advanced Compatibility Engineering). We expect the India-spec version to be offered with standard dual airbags and ABS across the lineup.

The BR-V for India will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan with heavy localization. The India-spec crossover would be powered by the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines. The former is good for 119 PS and 145 Nm of torque while the latter makes 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The petrol engine is expected to be available with a 5-MT and a CVT but it remains to be seen whether the oil burner will use a 5-MT or 6MT.

The Honda BR-V will be pitted against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta in India.
