Tata Nexon will be launched towards the end of 2016, ahead of Diwali.Showcased in production-ready guise at the 2016 Auto Expo, the new Tata Nexon SUV continues to make test runs around Tata Motors plant in Pune. Recently, a Tata Nexon AMT variant was spied near their plant, confirming that the car will also be available with AMT.

This gives Tata Nexon an edge over rivals Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza, which are only offered with either a manual gearbox, or a conventional automatic gearbox. Tata Nexon will also rival new Mahindra TUV300 and recently launched NuvoSport, both of which are offered with AMT.

Tata Nexon is based on the modified XO platform, which also forms the basis of other new cars from Tata, like the Zest, Bolt, and the upcoming Tiago. It will be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options.

The petrol engine is not confirmed yet but is expected to be Revotron 1.2 liter 4 cylinder which is also seen on Bolt and Zest. This engine is rated at 90 PS and 140 Nm via 5 speed MT. Tata Motors has confirmed that the new Nexon will come with 1.5-liter diesel engine under the Revotorq family. This engine will deliver 110 PS power via a six-speed gearbox. It is not certain as to whether the petrol Nexon will get AMT gearbox or the diesel or both.

The USP of Nexon is its minimalistic and future ready interiors. The neat and clean design of dual tone dashboard is arguably one of the best the segment has seen yet. Steering wheel, instrument cluster remains similar to Bolt and Zest. In the center is a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, smartphone integration, Bluetooth, and reverse parking camera display.

More details will be revealed closer to launch. Until then, have a look at the photo gallery below.
