Talking to Economic Times, Jnaneshwar Sen, Senior Vice-President (marketing and sales), Honda Cars India, stated that the company is expecting a double digit growth this year but admitted that achieving its original annual sales target of 3 lakh units (by 2016-17) would be a challenge.

The Japanese automaker ended the last fiscal with a sales volume of 1.92 lakh units which is merely 2% more than what it managed in the previous year. Mr. Sen said that rising prices due to various cesses and lack of clarity on the diesel front have made the market conditions very challenging.

Only the City sedan has been churning out consistent volumes every month. The Mobilio which started off strongly slowly lost its steam as the segment got taken over by crossover SUVs. The Amaze has just received the much needed facelift.

The Honda BR-V with its crossover-like styling and heavy localization would be the automaker’s weapon of choice to post a decent growth in this fiscal. We expect the pricing to be aggressive.
