Here is how the new entrant compares with its rivals.

The BR-V, Creta and Duster are available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Korean car has the most powerful petrol engine at 123 PS (1.6L). The Japanese crossover has the smallest petrol engine of the lot but it dishes out second highest power at 119 PS. The French compact SUV finishes third with a 1.6-litre petrol engine which is good for 104 PS. Coming to gearboxes, Duster uses a 5-MT, BR-V is offered with 6-MT or CVT while the Creta is available with 6-MT or 6-AT.

The BR-V is powered by a 100 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine while the other two offer two versions each. The Duster’s 1.5-litre K9K is available in two states of tune – 85 PS and 110 PS. The Creta offers two diesel engines – a 90 PS 1.4-litre unit and a range-topping 126 PS 1.6-litre mill. Save for the 85 PS Duster which makes do with a 5-MT, all other diesel variants in this comparo come with standard 6-MT. The Duster 110 can also be had with a 6-AMT while the Creta diesel sports an optional 6-AT. The difference in the mileage figures of the comparable variants are minimal.

All the three crossovers attempt to lure customers with a lengthy equipment list but the Creta clearly wins the game with multiple airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps and so on. Honda has the 3rd row of seats to its credit while the Duster plays its price card.

The Honda BR-V which will be launched in a few days is likely to be priced somewhere between the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta.
