The Renault Kwid is available with an optional driver airbag on the top-end variant.Autocar Professional reports that the Renault Kwid is one of the 7 Indian cars that have been crash tested by the Global NCAP as a part of its ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign. The automotive safety watchdog has not divulged the identities of the cars that are tested but has revealed that the results will be out on May 17.

Given that Renault Kwid is one of the most popular car launches in India in the recent times, Global NCAP’s move to test it doesn’t come as a surprise. The Kwid has received more than 140,000 bookings since its launch in September 2015.

Given that the Kwid doesn’t offer ABS and EBD even as an option, we don’t expect the crash rating to be spectacular. The optional driver airbag on the fully loaded variant is the only noteworthy safety feature that the Kwid offers as of now. However, it would be interesting to see how the vehicle’s structure behaves under impact.

The identities of the other 6 vehicles are still anybody’s guess. We would wager that the Hyundai Creta is one of them since it’s not only popular in the domestic market but is selling briskly in the export markets as well. We are eagerly waiting for Global NCAP to reveal the scores.
