Spotted: Blue Tata Kite 5 sedan testing without camouflage

The Kite 5 will lure hatchback buyers with the promise of additional boot space.A blue Tata Kite 5 has been spotted testing without any camouflage. The Tiago based compact sedan which will slot below the Zest is expected to be launched in the festive season.

The production version remains faithful to the concept which world premiered at the Auto Expo 2016. Unlike most other sub-4 m sedans, the Kite 5 (project name) fastback style rear which neatly blends in with the rest of the design. The front half of the design is carried over from its hatchback sibling. The rear fascia gets new wraparound taillights that are connected by a prominent chrome insert and a bumper with black applique to mask the visual bulk.

Three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will come from the Tiago.
The sedan’s interior has not been unveiled yet but we expect it to share its design with the Tiago. The color theme, however, is likely to be different. The equipment list on the top-end variant would include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, alloy wheels, fog lamps, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs and an infotainment system with smartphone-enabled turn-by-turn navigation.

The Tata Kite 5 will be deriving the new 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre diesel from the Tiago. The former generates 85 PS while the latter is good for 70 PS. A 5-speed manual transmission would be standard. The sedan will lure potential hatchback customers with the promise of additional boot space.
