New BMW X1 launch price starts from INR 29.90 lakh.World’s largest luxury car manufacturer, BMW has started the production of 2016 X1 SUV at their plant in Chennai, India. First unit of new BMW X1 was rolled out from the production line by Dr. Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director – BMW Plant Chennai.

Launched in India at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year, new BMW X1 made global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. Globally, it rivals the likes of Mercedes Benz GLA Class and the Audi Q3. In India, only one engine option is on offer.

This is in the form of 2.0 liter diesel inline 4 turbocharged engine which generates max power of 190 PS @ 4000 RPM and peak torque of 400 Nm @ 1750 RPM. Mated to a 8 speed automatic gearbox, mileage claimed stands at 20.68 kmpl. This is good to do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 7.6 seconds while achieving a top speed of 219 kmph.

Compared to the older X1, which looked more like a raised hatchback rather than an SUV, the new X1 does justice to its SUV tag. It comes with a bolder stance than before thanks to revised kidney grille, headlight cluster with full LED treatment, bonnet creases and lower bumper.

Side design is accentuated by new alloys, blackened window borders, electric-folding ORVMs with turn indicators. Rear gets larger LED taillamps, twin chrome tip exhaust, and a revised bumper design. On the inside, you get all black treatment with leather upholstery, hi-res colour multimedia infotainment screen for making changes to car settings, navigation, reverse parking camera, etc.

Available in four trims, two are sDrive (FWD) and two are xDrive (FWD), price ranges from INR 29.90 lakh to INR 39.90 lakh, ex-showroom.
