The SUV is based on VW Group’s MQB platform. The Skoda Kodiaq SUV which is gearing up to become the Czech automaker’s new flagship has been spotted testing in Europe in final production avatar for the first time. The mid-size crossover which will be positioned above the Yeti will target the likes of Hundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Renault Koleos and ladder frame SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The spyshot confirms that the Kodiaq follows the design cues previewed by the VisonS concept. The proportions are larger and bolder than any other Skoda, the SUV is instantly recognizable, thanks to its accentuated lines, taut surfaces and the trademark front grille.

We expect the interior design to subscribe to the brand’s current philosophy and derive several elements from its platform-mate, the new Superb. Speaking of the platform, the Kodiaq will be based on the VW Group’s MQB which is light and offers good dynamics.

Powertrain lineup consisting of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines would also be derived from its sedan sibling. Both manual and DSG automatic transmissions will be on offer. Higher variants will feature all-wheel drive systems as well.

Expected to world premiere at the Paris Motor Show this October, the Skoda Kodiaq will make its international sales debut sometime in early 2017. We can expect it to reach India via CKD route sometime in the later part of 2017.
