For years, consumers believed that the Swift and DZire are the best Maruti can offer. Maruti wanted to change that. They launched cars like Kizashi, SX4, but they failed to take-off. But, it seems that they have finally managed to change the perception.

Sales of new Maruti cars like the Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and S-Cross are on the rise. In fact, the first three cars are the best selling cars in their respective segment and the first two have registered over 17,000 units in sales for two consecutive months.

More people than ever before, do not mind spending INR 10+ lakh for a Maruti car. The sales figures speaks volumes. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, mid-sized sedan emerged as a top selling model in its segment in May 2016. New Baleno premium hatchback has also seen increased demand and so has the new Vitra Brezza.

Sales of Vitara Brezza have totaled 20,000 units since launch in March this year while waiting list currently stands at over 45,000 units, which means a waiting period of 7-10 months. Speaking of sales, Ciaz registered sales of 5,188 units (Honda City at 3,300 units), Baleno registered sales of 10,000 units (Elite i20 at 8,469 units) while the Vitara Brezza registered sales of 2,832 units.

At the same time, sales of Maruti’s old favourites, Swift and Dzire are declining or rather being sidelined. New cars being more profitable, Maruti has strategically reduced production of their old cars to accommodate demand for new cars.

It all seems to be working perfectly for the largest car manufacturer in India. Their upcoming cars line-up also seems interesting. Ignis, Baleno RS, and who can forget the new generation Swift / DZire.

Wonder what is the gameplan of rivals, who want to eat into Maruti’s share because as of now, it is the other way around.
