Guillaume Sicard, president, Nissan India operations, confirmed that the India-spec petrol hybrid X-Trail will be imported from Japan as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU).
The SUV would be taking advantage of the Indian government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and hybrid Vehicles) subsidy under NEMMP 2020 (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan). The vehicle is reported to be undergoing testing in India now.
The hybrid powertrain comprises a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is good for 145 PS and 207 Nm of torque, and an electric motor outputting 40 PS and 160 Nm of torque. The system is mated to a CVT. The X-Trail Hybrid is claimed to have a fuel efficiency of 20 kmph which is impressive given its size and heft.
The Nissan X-Trail will be competing with diesel powered SUVs in the premium segment such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe, etc. Modern technology, green credentials and best in class fuel economy will be the selling points.
