The mid-size SUV will go on sale sometime in 2017.The 2017 SsangYong Rexton is reported to be gearing up to make its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. The next generation SUV will derive its design language from the LIV-1 design study which was unveiled in 2013.
AutoExpress claims that it has seen the new vehicle in flesh at the South Korean UV specialist’s R&D Centre near Seoul.
Interestingly, SsangYong has decided to stick with the ladder frame chassis for the Rexton. The design is bolder and has a fresh appeal.
Modern lighting tech and employment of contemporary shapes make the front fascia attractive. The profile of the SUV is reported to have a mild hint of the Volvo XC90. Think C-Pillar, edgy taillight, and a wraparound windshield is expected to constitute the car’s rear end.
Going by the sketches, the interior too is a far cry from the current generation model. One can expect better quality and more features on board. The new car will also pack safety and assistance systems as per the segment standards.
The 2017 SsangYong Rexton is will receive a new 2.0-litre petrol engine and will retain the existing 2.2-litre diesel engine. While oil burner will continue to employ the Mercedes-sourced 7-speed AT, the petrol motor will receive a new 8-speed AT (also sourced from Mercedes).
It remains to be seen whether parent company Mahindra will bring the next gen Rexton to India or not.
