The introduction of mild hybrid variant boosted Ciaz’s sales. After forgettable experiences in the premium segment with the SX4, Grand Vitara, Kizashi, Maruti has finally managed to break the jinx with its Ciaz. The Maruti Ciaz which was launched in October 2014 has surpassed 100,000 sales milestone in India.

The Ciaz which caters to the mid-size sedan segment in country has been performing consistently since its launch, thanks to an attractive styling, well built interior, spacious rear seats, good equipment package and of course, fuel efficient engines.

The mild hybrid version gets excise duty discount as well as a government subsidy under FAME scheme.
In last September, Maruti updated the Ciaz diesel with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system which provided a definitive edge over its competitors. In the first five months of 2016, the Ciaz managed to outsell its primary rival Honda City twice.

When it comes to average monthly sales, the City managed a figure of around 5,500 units in the first five months of this year. The Ciaz is not far behind with an average of 5,400 units. The mild hybrid variant’s reduced excise duty and FAME subsidy from the government have helped the Ciaz register strong growth this year. The Ciaz rivals the likes of Honda City, Skoda Rapid, VW Vento and Nissan Sunny.

The growing anti-diesel doesn’t seem to have affected the Ciaz like it did in the case of its rivals. Honda found it challenging to respond quickly to the sudden change in preference from diesel to petrol for the City.
