The next gen global supermini features an evolutionary styling which retains the existing model’s distinct shape. The modern front fascia receives low-mounted hexagonal grill and peeled back projector headlamps.

The tight fitting roof has been retained but the C-pillar has grown thicker (black inserts are used to mask the visual bulk of the pillar). The rear fascia has little in common with the outgoing car. The larger taillights extend all way into the fenders. A compact hatchdoor and a bumper with massive diffuser would make up the rest of the rear end.

The leaked images also showed that the interior of the new Swift is completely new and shares nothing with its predecessor. We can expect the upcoming hatchback to sport additional features and better material quality.

To be slotted below the Baleno in Suzuki’s global portfolio, the 2017 Swift is likely to carry forward the current car’s 1.2-litre K-Series petrol powertrain albeit with improvements. Suzuki could likely introduce a homegrown diesel engine to replace the aging Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre MultiJet unit.

The 2017 Maruti Swift is expected to make its world premiere next year and enter India a few months later.
