For the month of June 2016, Maruti Suzuki India total sales stood at 98,840 units, as against 114,756 units sold in the same period last year. This means MSIL posted a decline of 13.9% in sales during June 2016.

The reason behind decline in sales is not due to decline in demand of their cars, but production constraint. During June 2016, Maruti Suzuki India had shut down both their car manufacturing plants to carry out annual maintainence.
These two plants together produce 15 lakh cars annually. This equates to about 4,110 cars a day. With plant shut for 6 days, the company faced total production loss of 24,660 cars.
Speaking about domestic sales, they stood at 92,133 units – declining by 10.2% while exports stood at 6,707 units – declining by 44.07 units.
Small car segment (Alto 800, Alto K10 and WagonR) continued to register decline for June 2016. This segment sales declined by 19.3%. Compact car segment (Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Baleno & Dzire) sales posted 12.5% increase in sales. Utility vehicles segment (Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza) continued posting growth thanks to new Vitara Brezza. Sales of this segment increased by a massive 75.5%.
