Ferrari developing new Supercar platform

Having unveiled the LaFerrari Spyder, it’s now time for a new Ferrari supercar. The company has already started work on a brand new platform which will spawn “several new flagship derivatives”.

The new platform in question is being developed with Ferrari’s long-standing engineering partner Altair. It is expected to be 10% lighter than the existing platform with 20% better crash and NVH performance.

Maximilian Szwaj, Ferrari’s Director of Innovation and BIW Development stated that Altair would be providing CAE and CAD solutions for vehicle integration, packaging and manufacturing process.

Royston Jones, global chief technology officer, Altair Product Design, stated that the new Ferrari supercar platform will be an outcome of massive deployment of structural optimization and material layout optimization. He added that the next gen architecture has an organic nature with the “structure flowing smoothly from sections to joints”.

Other details of the project are kept under wraps as of now. We expect the next Ferrari supercar to be ready in 2-3 years’ time. There would be several innovations when it comes to aerodynamics and material usage. Running gear could be a downsized turbocharged unit with hybrid assistance.

Whatever be the hardware configuration, the new Ferrari supercar will be packed with next gen technology and enviable performance.
