If it’s not for the Datsun Redi-Go’s strong performance last month, Nissan India’s sales growth with respect to July 2015 would have been in the negative territory.

The recently launched entry level urban crossover-like hatchback has managed to clock an impressive 3,940 units last month, driving Nissan India’s sales growth to 126% as against 2,841 units in previous July.

If the Redi-Go was moved out of the equation, Nissan India’s domestic sales in July 2016 would have been only 2,478 units. This indicates that except for the new arrival, none of the Nissan and Datsun products in India are performing well.

The Japanese automaker’s export operation is a different story. The Micra once again emerged as the most exported car from India last month as 6,807 units left the country.

The Micra which is steadily approaching the end its lifecycle is being exported to over hundred countries from India including Europe. Now that the next-gen Micra for Europe is set to be produced at a Renault factory in France, the Indian subsidiary needs to find a way to compensate for that loss of business.

As far as new products are concerned, Nissan India is gearing up to launch the new X-Trail premium SUV in petrol hybrid avatar.
