Renault has unveiled the upcoming Kwid 1.0-litre in the Brazilian market yesterday, along with the Captur and the second generation Koleos. All these cars are expected to hit the Indian market within a couple of years. The Kwid 1.0-litre was also showcased at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and is most likely to have its market debut around the upcoming festive season.

Brazil has similar market sentiments to ours and a lot of cars are developed keeping in mind both these markets. The Kwid which will go on sale in Brazil soon is reportedly 130kg heavier than the one sold in India. The company is also said to be sourcing CKD (completely knocked down) kits for the Kwid's assembly in Brazil from Renault's plant in Chennai. The Brazilian version will also feature four airbags as standard (dual-front and side airbags) along with ABS with EBD.

All this has been done with the Kwid in Brazil to meet the stringent Latin American crash test regulations. On the flipside, the Kwid here in India is only available with an optional driver’s airbag - nothing else is offered as of yet. However, with the upcoming Kwid 1.0-litre, it is expected of Renault to offer dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD. Aesthetically, the Brazilian Kwid has remained unaltered, save for the new colour shades and alloys (probably with bigger 14-inch tyres).

Joining the Kwid in Brazil will be the Captur SUV, which will sit above the Duster. The Captur made its debut earlier this year in the Russian market and is known as ‘Kaptur’ there. The vehicle is expected to make its Indian debut next year and, just like in Brazil, the Captur will sit above the Duster here. Moreover, its name is most likely to start with 'C' in India instead of ‘K’. For the uninitiated, the Kaptur/Captur which is available in Russia and will be sold in the Indian and Brazil markets soon is not the one retailed in Europe. Though it shares design cues and the name (as we have seen in Brazil) with the European model, the underpinnings are shared with the popular Duster.

Besides the Kwid and the Captur, Renault has also unveiled the second generation Koleos in Brazil. The SUV made its debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show in April.
