Across all leading manufacturers, it was their UVs that were more in demand for the month of July 2016. Maruti Suzuki India Limited saw its Vitara Brezza receiving more attention while Hyundai Creta, Toyota Innova, and M&M’s TUV300 and KUV100 were also in good demand during the past month.
6 Maruti Suzuki cars, 3 Hyundai cars and 1 Renault car made it to the list of Top 10 selling cars in July 2016. The top two Indian car brands – MSIL posted 13.9% growth during the month while Hyundai Motor sales were up 12.9%.
MSIL continued to rule the Indian car industry with 6 of its models on the list. MSIL’s Alto, DZire, WagonR and Swift claimed top 4 spots despite a fall in sales figures as compared to July 2015. The company sold 9,120 units of the new Baleno, 7,792 units of Celerio while 5,126 units of the Ciaz were sold resulting in an increase of 146%. The highlight is obviously their UV, Vitara Brezza, which posted sales of 10,232 units, thereby becoming the best selling SUV in the country.
Hyundai Grand i10 climbed from a No. 6 spot in July 2015 to No. 5 in the past month with 11,961 units sold, an increase of 38% over 8,691 units sold in July 2015. Hyundai Elite i20 dropped 5 positions to No. 9 with 8,205 units sold, a fall of 18% over 10,031 units sold in July 2015.
Renault Kwid too managed to enter the lucrative Top 10 selling cars list for July 2016 with 9,897 units sold during the past month. However, Renault India registered domestic sales to the extent of 11,968 units in July 2016 as against 1,686 units in July 2015, an increase of 609.8% with the Kwid being the key sales driver. The company expects to roll out the 1.0 liter variant of the Kwid hatchback this month while the company also has the Kwid 1.0 liter AMT variant in the works. It is highly possible that Renault may launch both these variants together later this month.
